Five Treatments To Periodontal Diseases

Published on:2017-10-16

It is imperative to do periodontal treatments before carrying out an orthodontic correction. As for periodontal treatment, it generally refers to the following five types.

1. Basic treatment

It is a regular treatment to periodontal diseases, with a purpose to eliminate or control the clinical inflammation and pathogenic factors. It involves dental health promotion, cavity-filling, dental cleaning and scaling, endodontic treatment, occlusal adjustment, removing the bad prosthesis, pharmacotherapy (an auxiliary therapy, local application causes a better result), and extraction of tooth with periodontal diseases, etc.

2. Periodontal systematic treatment

As Periodontitis progresses to a certain degree, it is quite hard to acquire a good result by the basic treatment alone. Thus a timely and proper surgery is required to save the ill tooth. It helps to keep the periodontium healthy and prolong the service life of the ill tooth, so as to maintain the integrity of dentition and improve the general health. It involves subgingival scaling, scaling and root planning, periodontal flap surgery, gingivectomy and periodontal splintage, etc.

3.Reparative therapy and stabilization of loosen tooth

There are a number of problems caused by periodontitis. The pain from a loosen tooth impedes the chewing function of prosthesis. Inflammatory periodontium does harm to the abutment tooth. The position of tooth is hard to stabilize. And a tooth model can hardly be acquired accurately without eliminating the gingival inflammation. For that a crown rehabilitation is supposed to be conducted in a healthy gingival sulcus, we can restore the function of periodontium by reparative therapy. It’s imperative to do a stabilization for the loosen tooth which is able to be saved.

4. Other treathments

  4.1 Aesthetic surgery

Some patients suffer from gingival hyperplasia which definitely affects the aesthetic result. Carrying out an aesthetic resection is necessary for them to restore the contour of gingiva.

  4.2 Crown lengthening

Because of the bad root condition of some patients, a direct dental rehabilitation cannot be conducted. Under this situation a periodontal surgery is need to lengthen the crown which enables the rehabilitation to be conducted.

5. Maintenance therapy of periodontal support

Generally speaking, maintenance therapy involves regular reexamination, and even a retreatment if necessary, in order to maintain the curative effect and prevent the relapse.
