As children are still in the growth and development period, they are yet to become mature mentally and physically, making them susceptible to injuries. Especially with a nature of activeness and high curiosity, children are suffering from dental injuries more frequently. What’s more, there is an increase in dental injuries as a result of urbanization and environmental change. Dental injuries take place more frequently among children at the age of seven to ten. Boys are more susceptible to dental injuries than girls.
Struck by external force, it is possible that children’s teeth break away from the alveolar sockets completely. It is called the complete teeth dislocation, which is the most serious kind of dental injury. Then how can we deal with dental injuries for children? Here are the answers from dentists of AKJ Dental.
In general, re-plantation won’t be conducted if there is a complete dislocation of deciduous tooth. The dentist will make an judgement whether to remain the tooth sockets or not, in accordance to the eruption of permanent teeth. Complete dislocation of deciduous teeth, sometimes along with alveolar bone fracture, will take a toll on the growth of permanent tooth germs. It’s imperative to pay a regular return visit under the instructions of your dentist, with a purpose to observe the growth of permanent germs and seek proper treatments correspondingly.
If it is a permanent tooth that completely gets out of the alveolar socket because of injuries, then the tooth can be replanted. The sooner, the better.
What should be done first after a dental injury is to find the fall-out tooth. Keep in mind that never touch its tooth pulp, but hold it at the crown part. Next, rinse away the dirt on the surface, but never scrub the tooth root. Put it back to the alveolar socket according to the alignment and bite gently to anchor the tooth.
If the tooth can’t be put back to the alveolar socket, it is suggested putting the tooth inside the child’s mouth or keep it in fresh milk or normal saline first, then seek treatments from a dentist immediately. The re-plantation that conducted within 15 to 30 minutes after the tooth falling off will enjoy the highest success rate.
Chances are, children’s natural tooth can be restored if dental injuries are properly dealt with. By no means can you ignore it because it serves a close link with the health of children.
