Can I Use Interdental Brush If I don’t Get Braces?

Published on:2018-7-25

Interdental Brush is designed to clean larger gaps between teeth and remove debris stuck between braces and teeth. Mostly it’s used by those who are wearing braces. Does it mean those not wearing braces are not allowed to use interdental brush? The answer is absolutely “no”.

According to dentists from AKJ Dental Hospital, people facing situations including periodontitis, receding gums, large teeth gaps or naturally sparse teeth, can use interdental brush to help get rid of tartar or debris struck between the gaps. However, attention should be paid to the following aspects when you’re using it.

If the gaps between teeth are too small to let an interdental brush get in, then it’s not necessary to use it. Instead you can seek dental floss to clean your teeth.

There are interdental brushes of different sizes available. You may as well consult with a dental professional in order to choose a fitted one for yourself. A too-small-size one may fail to clean gaps effectively, while a too large one may not able to get inside the gaps and susceptible to fracture.

Bear in mind to use your interdental brush gently. Brushing vigorously is set to irritate gum tissues and do harm to gingival health over time.
