Regret getting a dental implant? A better way than dental implant?

Published on:2019-11-28

Are there people who regret getting dental implants? Yes, but very few. And usually the cause reason is their bad experience with unqualified doctor, or their inadvisable decision to remove healthy teeth to get dental implants. But most patients are satisfied with their dental implants, and they only regret not getting it earlier.

Some netizens say there is a better way to restore a missing tooth than dental implant. Is that true? Actually, doctors don't simply judge a restoration method as good or bad, instead they try their best to find the most fitting one for the patient.

Currently there are three ways to restore missing teeth: removable denture, dental bridge and dental implant.

1. Removable denture is removable artificial teeth with common masticatory function, which won’t be fixed well after long time use. That's why we often see dentures fall out of a talking or laughing mouth;

2. Dental bridge requires to grind the teeth on both sides of the missing tooth to make bridge anchors which will be restored with crowns on the dental bridge. It is held in place and not removable. But the grinding of the teeth may be a threat to the health in the long run.

3. Dental implant, which is fixed, involves making a hole in the location of the missing tooth, putting the artificially made metal root in, installing the abutment on the top of the root, and placing the crown. That’s all. There is no need to grind the adjacent teeth. Dental implant has its own independent root, and it is good looking.

Therefore, in terms of comfortableness, aesthetics, immobility and service life, dental implant is superior, and it is currently the most frequently used method to restore missing teeth. The so-called better way than dental implant may be a trick of an ill-intentioned doctor. Generally, if your teeth are in good condition, the doctor won’t recommend dental implants to you.

It is crucial to choose a professional dental institution and professional doctor. After all, dental implants have higher requirements for doctors' skills and equipment. Not all doctors can do the procedure. Some unqualified doctors in unlicensed clinics avail themselves of the loopholes to advocate and recommend dental implants even though they have no capability to do the surgery. Even if there are doctors who can do dental implant in such clinics, their poor skills are more likely to cause postoperative complications, bringing more pain to the patients.

Therefore, if you want to get a dental implant, you must be careful to choose an experienced doctor from a professional dental hospital or the dental department in a general hospital, so that you can expect a secured outcome of the surgery.
