Published on:2017-5-26

Tooth filling is a restoration method of tooth decay. Your dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then "fill" the area on the tooth where the decayed material was removed. Many people are curious about steps involved in filling a tooth. So what on earth steps are involved in filling a tooth?

Dentist at Shenzhen A.K.J Stomatology Hospital said that if tooth is rotted away to the degree of without reaching its pulp cavity, in this case caries is divided into three types—shallow, medium, and deep. In general, once filling is enough. Sometimes teeth are too bad decayed, so once filling is not enough at all. Hence, once comfort treatment and twice filling are needed. This is what in general we say filling. While if tooth is bad decayed and till reach the its pulp cavity, or even causing pulpitis and periapical periodontitis, maybe filling is useless at this time. Instead, root canal treatment should be considered. Here we main talk about steps involved in filling a tooth in general.

Check-up

The first step dentist will check your oral cavity. After dentist knew the basic situation of oral cavity, quantity and degree of your decayed tooth according to which he or she will make treatment plan.

Cavity preparation

During cavity preparation dentist will remove pathological tissues to protect dental pulp and healthy dental tissues and establish a good retainer and pit, thereby to prevent filling from breaking, falling and not exacting. So this step has high technical demands on dentist.

         Disinfection

Shallow caries just needs disposable disinfection and filling. Medium or deep caries needs 3 to 5 times medication. Patients should receive root canal treatment when caries involved in dental nerve.

Filling

Fill materials into prepared cavity. This step involves in the choice and usage of filling materials. Both composite resin fillings and silver amalgam fillings irritate to the dental pulp, so the dentist need to line above medium depth of cavity with one or two layers of basal mat to protect the dental pulp and then fill up cavity with metal or nonmetal materials in a certain order.

The steps of dental filling seems very simple, but it has high technical demands on dentist. Hence, patients should go to professional stomatology hospital. Addtionally, people should follow good oral hygiene and visit dentist regularly for cleanings and examinations to avoid toothache or even serious root canal treatment.
