Published on:2017-11-6

As we all know, bleeding gum is a dental problem that is very common to see. Complaints about bleeding gums are not unfamiliar to us. Then, what’s the reasons of bleeding gums? And how can we do to handle such situations

What causes bleeding gums?

In most cases, bleeding gums result from a poor oral hygiene in a long run.

Actually there are tiny spaces between teeth and gum. Generally there will be food debris without a thorough cleaning. The bacteria in mouth will erode and calcify the debris, depositing to the tooth surface, especially to the tooth root. It will evolve into hard dental calculus without cleaning in time. What’s more, it’s difficult to remove the dental calculus in the gum spaces merely by brushing. With the accumulation, the dental calculus and plaque will oppress the gum and lead to gingivitis, then bleeding gums happen.

The harm of bleeding gums

If the gingivitis is left untreated for a long time, the inflammation will spread to the peripheral tissues and become periodontitis. As the situation get worse, there will be gum recessions, stopping gingiva from providing nutrition to alveolar bone. Without enough nutrition, the alveolar bone will recess as well, followed with a lower gum line. Eventually there will be an exposure of tooth root, causing loose and shedding tooth.

How to deal with bleeding gums?

Therefore, daily oral cleaning is of great significance. We are supposed to cultivate a habit of brushing teeth in the morning and before bed time, rinsing mouth after meals. At the same time, brushing your teeth in a correct way is essential as well. It is no deny that a good daily cleaning will reduce the generation of tooth calculus and occurrence of dental diseases.

As is mentioned above, the tooth calculus accumulating in the gum space can hardly be removed by brushing. Thus it is necessary to go for a dental cleaning once a year or half a year. By dental cleaning, we can remove the dirt that cannot removed by brushing, which helps to keep oral health efficiently.

It is recommended to undergo a dental cleaning in a stomatological hospital when there are bleeding gums. Along with the removal of tooth calculus, the gingivitis can be improved to some extent and thus solve the problem of bleeding gums.

What’s more, bleeding gums is possibly caused by some other systemic diseases as well. It is advisable to see a doctor in time when there is occurrence of bleeding gums.
