Clinically, quite a lot of patients undergoing fixed denture previously would like to replace it with a dental implant. In their eyes, dental implants outweigh fixed denture. Why does everyone prefer dental implants? Is their apprehension on the two types of dental prosthesis always true? 

    Fixed denture is conducted based on the support of natural teeth, while an implant tooth use a freestanding artificial root. With the natural tooth root remaining intact, you might as well seek restoration of porcelain teeth. Do not extract the tooth in order to conduct dental implant. On one hand, you will definitely feel more comfortable with your natural tooth root. On the other hand, the artificial root is much more expensive.  

    As for restoring tooth defect, fixed denture, namely porcelain teeth, will probably be a better choice. When it comes to dealing with tooth loss, it is dental implant that should be highly recommended. Because fixed denture requires to abrade the two adjacent teeth in order to hold a three-teeth dental bridge in place, while dental implant casts no harm on other healthy teeth.

    In terms of dental work, it’s the fittest approach that will be the best. Generally, it’s suggested to seek fixed denture for tooth defect, and dental implant for tooth loss. In addition, if you have conducted fixed denture for your missing teeth before, with a rather satisfactory result and no other abnormalities, you can just keep on using it instead of blindly seeking dental implants. To be noted, not everyone is eligible candidate for dental implant.
