What Are Black Lines on Molars

Published on:2018-8-5

As is known to all, there will be a few lines, also known as pits and fissures, on the occlusal surface of molars. Originally they are tooth-colored. However, they may turn black over time. How does it progress and how can we remove the black lines?

According to dentists from AKJ Dental Hospital, there may be various causes for the fissures turning black, such as caries and pigmentation. First of all, you need to take a thorough check-up to see whether or not they are signs of early cavities. If not, then mostly it’s a result of accumulative pigment which is caused by frequent consumption of tobacco, tea and wine, and poor oral cleaning. Conventionally the black lines will be too stubborn to be removed by daily brushing if they’ve existed for a long time. Instead it’s a professional cleaning that should be sought to get rid of them.

Ultrasonic cleaning serves to remove dental plaque and calculus, followed by a sandblasting procedure which helps to remove pigments deposited over tooth and thus restores the original tooth color. Generally speaking, the cleaning procedure is set to produce a desirable result. As for those who like to eat dark-colored food staffs, it’s suggested to rinse mouth with water after eating anything, in order to reduce the accumulation of pigments. Otherwise, chances are that you will confront tooth discoloration again not long after the cleaning procedure.

Besides, it’s not recommended to try some so-called home remedies to remove the discoloration, since there exists risk of harming your teeth during the process if you cannot operate correctly. As a result, what leaves to you will be nothing but regret. With any dental issues, it would be advisable to take an exam to find out the underlying cause and seek proper treatment accordingly. That will be much safer and save you more time as well.
