We see colorful and tasteful sweets everywhere. They are taste-bud-stimulating, especially irresistible to kids. Moms and dads worry that the intake of a large amount of sugar will not only impact their kids’ health, but also cause a catastrophe for the teeth, especially causing dental caries.
What if the kid’s deciduous teeth are decayed, should we have them filled or pulled?
Tooth cavities must be filled as much as possible to restore the shape and function of the teeth, if the filling doesn’t interfere with the development and eruption of the permanent teeth.
Cavities grow larger and deeper over time, and they are classified into shallow, medium and deep cavities. Parents must keep in mind that the sooner the treatment, the better the outcome. If the cavities penetrate into the pulp nerve but are still left untreated, the inflammation will spread to the permanent teeth under the milk teeth, which means the kid’s newly grown permanent teeth will be affected.
How to Treat Different Types of Dental Cavities
(1) Shallow Cavities
Shallow cavities only situate on the surface of the teeth, so they can be treated by removing the decayed area and applying the anti-caries agent;
(2) Moderate Cavities
Moderate cavities have destroyed the hard protective outer layer of the teeth and entered the inner layer, forming a hole or pit on the tooth. At this point, it is necessary to remove the decayed and softened tooth tissue, and fill the hole with a certain tooth material, that is, “tooth filling”;
(3) Deep Cavities
At this stage, the teeth are seriously decayed, and the pulp is at risk of infection. In this case, detailed dental examination is required to determine the dental condition and the corresponding treatment, whether tooth filling or root canal treatment.
