What is the cause of odontoprisis?

Published on:2019-11-27

The common saying of odontoprisis is bruxism. Long- term bruxism causes great harm and will result in tooth defect, tooth wear, sores and sensitivity to hot and cold stimulation.

Odontoprisis is rarely heard in our daily life. A more popular name is bruxism. It may happen to adults and children. Bruxism is not a concern if you grind your teeth sometimes, but you need to take care and find a solution if it lasts for a long time.

So what is the cause of odontoprisis?

Actually this is a complicated problem. In many cases, we can think about the following reasons.

1. For kids, it might be caused by parasites or lack of calcium.

2. Malocclusion, tooth loss, chewing on one side etc.

3. Mental stress, pressure, irregular lifestyles, eating disorders etc.

Usually, you do not have to panic if it occurs occasionally, however, long-term bruxism is a warning that you should go to a dental hospital to check the condition of your tooth occlusion, and make a molar jaw pad accordingly to reduce tooth wear.

Of course, wearing a molar jaw pad is not the end, you still need to figure out the root cause and find a solution.

For example, if parasites are the culprit of bruxism of your children, then a timely treatment is needed. Calcium supplementation is necessary if it is caused by lack of calcium. For a malocclusion, you should take your kids to a dental hospital to adjust the occlusion. A timely correction is in need if your son or daughter is with a habit of unilateral chewing.

For adults, daily pressure, mental stress, frequent stay-ups, irregular lifestyles and eating disorders largely contribute to bruxism. It is recommended that you should find a balance between work and rest. A healthy lifestyle and eating habit is necessary. Just a reminder: good mental state and moderate relaxation give you a healthy body.
