The application of fluoride is actually a very simple process and when a child can fully cooperate with the dentist the whole procedure can be completed very quickly and in most cases it can be done in 10 minutes. The treatment is safe so parents don’t need to worry. The dentist will clean the teeth first and then use a small brush to apply the fluoride on the teeth evenly.

Fluoride treatment carried out at professional clinics are safe and the dosage of fluoride used is within safe limits. Fluoride treatment is available in the form of varnish, foam and gels. The most commonly used form of fluoride treatment is varnish.

 

Fluoride varnish is usually fruit flavored so it makes it easier for the children to cooperate and the amount of fluoride applied to the teeth is safe. A few hours after the treatment the excess fluoride can be removed through brushing, therefore parents don’t need to worry that the children are getting excessive amounts of fluoride.

 

Can Parents Apply Fluoride Treatment?

 

It is not advised to apply fluoride treatment without the help of a dental professional. There is a lot of fluoride products available and in comparison to fluoride toothpaste, fluoride treatment has a higher concentration of fluoride. If the dosage of fluoride is not controlled it can result in fluoride poisoning.

 

Also before applying fluoride the teeth need to be cleaned thoroughly if not will affect the results of the fluoride application and it is often advised that fluoride is applied every 3 to 6 months.
