Occlusal Trauma

Published on:2018-3-29

Occlusal trauma refers to lesion of chewing muscles or periodontium caused by malocclusion or incoordinated bite force. In general, it may occur with teeth grinding and clenching which will result in tear and wear of teeth over time. A worn-down tooth is probably sensitive to cold or hot irritations and causes pain.

(Disclaimer: only one case, the effect varies)

In addition, occlusal trauma also comes as a newly restorative tooth is higher than other teeth. As a result, large part of force will be imposed on the higher one alone during mastication, making it susceptible to trauma. A difference of one millimeter in height will indeed cause pain. So it’s necessary to contact your dentist in time if there is a malocclusion. With timely treatment to eliminate the height difference, the pain will disappear soon and cause no permanent harm. At AKJ Dental, we remain committed to offering premium services and freeing patients from trouble of malocclusion and pain.
