Who Are the Candidates to Have Crowns

Published on:2017-2-6

A dental crown is to cover over a severely damaged tooth for strengthening. Besides strengthening a damaged tooth, a crown can be used to improve its appearance, shape or alignment.

The following conditions are recommended having dental crown:

1.Severely damaged by decay. If a tooth is decayed in large place, the fillings easily fall out. Crown can replace a large filling to restore the appearance and the function of this tooth. It also has the protection function for the adjacent teeth.

2.Restore a fractured tooth, especially for the front tooth. Front tooth is very important for people’s appearance and you will not put high pressure to it in daily life for you do not chew with front tooth.

3.Cover a discolored tooth. Tetracycline pigmentation teeth and dental fluorosis are commonly seen and regular teeth whitening is not effectively work in these situations. Covering the discolored teeth with crown is a better way to get back your shining smile.

4.Cover a poorly shaped tooth. Some teeth are not in good shape by their development and crowns help to restore and give you natural teeth looking.

There is not so much limitation for crown’s candidate. However, deep overbite patients are not suitable to have crown for there is no room for the crown. Patients who have very small size and weak teeth are not suitable either for this kind of teeth cannot resist bite force and the crown will easily fall out.
