Injecting anaesthesia, you dentist will create an access cavity with a dental handpiece, which is called dental pulp opening. If the inflammation is not that severe, devitalizer will be employed and pay a return visit two or three days later. For severe inflammation, the pulp chamber needs to remain open helping inflammatory tissues to unleash pressure, and seek devitalizer one or two days later. Literally, devitalizer serves to devitalize the dental pulp, that is to kill the dental pulp, so that you won’t feel pain any more. 

      During the return visit, your dentist will firstly make a judgement whether a second devitalization is needed or not. Without a complete devitalization, it’s necessary to repeat the last procedure and wait for the next visit. If the pulp has been completely devitalized, then move to the next step that thoroughly removing the pulp tissues as the groundwork for RCT. At last, restore the tooth with gutta-percha filling and a crown. Generally speaking, two to four return visits will be necessary during the whole process of RCT, and every visit takes about half an hour to an hour. With regard to the cost, it depends on the number of visit, root canal and material of filling, usually costing several thousand RMB.
