Dental Implant for Long-time Tooth Loss?

Published on:2018-2-12

Many people choose to leave it alone after tooth loss, bring them long-term suffer. Can dental implant be conducted for tooth loss that has lasted for a long time?

Actually, dental implant is not always suitable for a long-time tooth loss. Three aspects usually should be taken into consideration. Firstly, whether the condition of alveolar bone is good enough to support dental implant?Besides, are there leaning signs of the adjacent teeth toward the tooth loss socket? At last, is there periodontitis caused by irritation of long-term accumulation of food debris?

If you have suffered tooth loss for a few years, there will be obvious alveolar resorption and decline in gums height. The bone mass won’t be adequate, but it doesn’t mean that you have no chance to get dental implant. Seek treatment for removing inflammations first and then conduct a surgery of bone graft for the alveolar bone to reach a normal height. Thus an immediate dental implant can be conducted subsequently.

Within half or an year after tooth loss, the alveolar bone won’t be greatly impacted. You have to, however, pay attention to whether there is dental calculus on the tooth loss position. If yes, it means you’ve got periodontitis. Periodontal treatments should be sought to get inflammation under control prior to conducting dental implant. If no, there is no big change of gum tissues and conducting dental implant won’t bring forth much discomfort generally.

To be noted, the longer time you’ve suffered tooth loss, the less eligible you will be for conducting dental implant. Therefore, seek dental implant in an early manner when your alveolar bone remains good.
