How to Deal With Gingival Recession

Published on:2018-4-17

Gingival recession, also known as receding gums, is a quite common oral problem, especially among those over the age of 40. As for the younger population, they usually suffer from inflammatory gingival recession, which results from unhealthy dietary habits or environmental contamination. Generally there are symptoms of red, swollen and bleeding gums. When it comes to age-related recession, the long-term exposed teeth will be highly sensitive to cold or hot, and sour foods, eliminating the enjoyment of dining. What should we do to better deal with gingival recession?

Keep good oral hygiene always. It’s of great importance to at least brush teeth twice a day, in the morning and before bedtime, with fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Under some occasions where brushing is not available, you’d better turn to rinsing mouth instead. For the elderly suffering from teeth sensitivity because of recession, desensitizing toothpaste should be used on a daily basis, with a purpose to mitigate pain as well as better take care of teeth and gums.

Prevent and cure inflammatory dental diseases. Such problems as calculus, periodontitis, ulcers, gingivitis, food entrapment and ill-fitted denture, all raise risks of obtaining gingival recession. Thereby it’s necessary to schedule regular dental checkups and access to more knowledge about dental care. In cases of receded gums, a surgical treatment can also be sought.

Seek treatments for systematic diseases that can lead to receding gums, including endocrine disorder, anemia and Vitamin C deficiency, diabetes and leukemia. As proper treatments have been applied to the diseases, the symptom of gingival recession will gradually be eased accordingly.

Stay away from contaminated setting. As is revealed, arsenic and lead poisoning can provoke periodontitis, swollen and receding gums. Thus, much attention should be paid to steward the environment where you work and live, keep yourself from contacting such poisonous substances.

Schedule regular dental care. As is widely acknowledged, conducting dental cleaning once every 6 or 12 months, serves to effectively prevent gingivitis. Those who have already fallen into victims of periodontitis are supposed to seek periodontal treatment in a timely manner, stopping it from getting worse.
