Should Dental Implant Be Sought for Broken Incisor?

Published on:2018-8-3

Many people may have heard about dental implant. But do you know what situations it is indicated for? Though it is dubbed “the third set of teeth” for human beings with many advantages, it cannot be sought for any dental issues. It has to be noted that no dental prosthesis is as good as a natural tooth. So efforts should be made to save the natural tooth when it’s still reparable.

When it comes to a broken incisor, can a dental implant be applied?

Actually, it depends. Implant tooth is a way to deal with tooth loss, generally consisting of three parts — dental implant serving as artificial root, abutment as connector and finally a crown for protection and mastication.

If the incisor is mildly broken, dental filling like resin composite can be applied to restore its appearance. Dental implant is definitely not required under such circumstance.

If the incisor has lost a larger part of tooth structure, almost the whole crown, then a thorough check-up should be run first to see whether or not the left tooth roots can be saved after proper treatment. If yes, then a post and core crown instead of dental implant can be sought to address the problem.

In severe cases where crown has been lost and fracture has reached deep inside the tooth roots, it’s an extraction that should be conducted since the tooth is not reparable any more. After the removal of the whole tooth, you have to seek dental replacement like implant tooth or denture in a timely manner.

Whenever there’s a dental issue, it’s suggested to take an exam first for finding out underlying cause and seek proper treatment accordingly. In terms of dental work, the fittest way will be the best way. It’s advisable to follow your dentist’s professional suggestions instead of pursuing some kind of dental restoration blindly.
