When to Seek Pit and Fissure Sealing?

Published on:2018-8-24

Pit and fissure sealing is an effective way to prevent dental caries for children. However, many parents have no idea when they should seek the procedure for their children. According to dentists from AKJ Dental Hospital, the procedure can be sought at various ages.

Pit and fissure sealing refers to filling the uneven surface of molars with sealant, which serves to protect teeth from the invasion of food debris and bacteria and thus prevent dental caries. Though it’s not permanent, the procedure can be conducted again if the sealing materials fall out, able to yield a desirable result.

Generally speaking, you’d better seek the procedure for children at the following ages.

Around 3-4 years old: seek the pit and fissure sealing for deciduous molars.

Around 6-9 years old: seek the procedure for the first permanent molars.

Around 12-15 years old: seek the procedure for the second permanent molars.

Similar to fluoride application, pit and fissure sealing works well to prevent tooth cavities. What’s more, it won’t cause any harm to your teeth. Compared with seeking dental filling or other treatments after the occurrence of dental caries, the pit and fissure will cost you less and make you suffer less as well. As we all know, prevention is better than cure. So it’s of great necessity to seek the sealing procedure for children in a timely manner.  Relevant article: Any Harm from Pit and Fissure Sealing?
