A prosthesis needed after removing wisdom tooth?

Published on:2018-12-22

As we all know, it’s fine to keep your wisdom teeth in mouth if they erupt fully in right places. However, that’s quite rare. In most cases, they erupt partially or obliquely and are susceptible to inflammation, causing pain from time to time. No doubt the pain will precipitate an impact on both sleeping and eating. At that time it’s an extraction that will be required.

Some people, however, wonder if there is any harm to extract them and whether or not a dental prosthesis should be sought after their removal. According to dentists from AKJ Dental Hospital, there is no need to seek dental replacement for wisdom teeth. Extraction would be the end of story.

Tooth extraction is set to leave a hole. Without seeking a dental replacement, will this hole exist all the time? Because of the complicated eruption of wisdom teeth, there will be a lager wound left after the extraction, which will generally heal within one or two months. The hole will also gradually grow even, so you don’t need to worry about it.

After removing all wisdom teeth, will the rest of teeth be able to exert a full masticatory function? Of course. Normally speaking, the number of teeth for human ranges from 28 to 32, including 4 wisdom teeth. Some people have merely 28 teeth, with no wisdom tooth at all. Actually, wisdom teeth are not functionally significant. Therefore, their removal won’t impact both the aesthetics and function.

On contrary, since wisdom teeth start to erupt after one steps into adulthood, there is usually no enough room for their eruption. As a result, they usually erupt partially or in wrong directions, leading to dental caries of their adjacent teeth, pericoronitis or entrapment of food debris. It would be a right decision to remove wisdom teeth in time after seeking a professional evaluation.

In addition, the process of tooth removal is almost painless with the application of local anesthesia. As the anesthetic effect gradually fades away, it’s normal to have pain and swelling which is set to see mitigation with time. Painkillers and anti-inflammatory drugs can be helpful if the pain is really unbearable. Nowadays, there is a new technique called minimally invasive extraction which will make the extraction process more comfortable and less traumatized.
