Can I Leave Mild Caries Along?

Published on:2018-8-21

At the very beginning of dental caries, there will be absolutely no pain. Therefore, some people don’t take it serious and have it filled in time, and some may even take no note of its existence. However, do you know the consequences of no timely filling? Can you tooth remain normal use after a filling procedure?

First of all, if left untreated, the mild caries will continue to progress and get worse over time. It will make its way from the external enamel tier to dentin, further deep to the inside pulp chamber containing dental nerves and ultimately even to the root apex. Once the caries has extended its touch toward nerves, it’s not dental filling but root canal therapy (RCT) that you will need. The RCT refers to devitalizing your dental nerves, followed by filling and crown wearing. Compared with a simple filling procedure, the RCT will be much more difficult to operate, costing you more accordingly.

Next, can an after-filling tooth return to normal? And what is the longevity of the filling? When there is mild caries, it only requires to remove corroded issues and replace them with filling materials, which is set to restore both the contour and function of the tooth. Hence, the after-treatment tooth is able to be used as a natural one, for sure. As for its longevity, that varies widely depending on the postoperative care. It’s necessary to strictly follow your dentist’s instructions and take really good care of your teeth. For instance, brushing your teeth carefully to maintain a good oral hygiene and erase the too hard and sticky food from you diet list.

In closing, filling cavities at their early stages will not only yield a desirable result but also be quite economical, which is definitely a wise choice to make. Do not delay your appointment with dentists when there is caries, in order to prevent bigger problems down the road.  Relevant article: Price of Dental filling
