Fixed dental bridge

Published on:2019-1-3

Tooth loss is set to lay an adverse impact on life, so it’s suggested to restore it in a timely manner. There are a few ways available nowadays to restore it, including dental implant, removable denture, and fixed dental bridge. Some think dental implant is too expensive and removable denture performs poorly. Then what about fixed dental bridge?

First of all, the two adjacent teeth of the missing one will be abraded away a layer of enamel and shaped into tow abutments. Afterwards a customized porcelain bridge in the length of three-teeth will be manufactured and anchored on the abutments. This is the restoration of fixed dental bridge.

It may cost less than a dental implant, and it also performs far better than a removable denture. However, it has one apparent shortcoming, that is it requires enamel abrasion upfront. The process of abrading enamel is irreversible and will take a toll on overall dental health in the long run. Besides, if there is something wrong with one crown, you have to remove the bridge as a whole and seek a new replacement.

Therefore, dental implant is more recommended than fixed dental bridge in terms of restoring missing tooth.

If you choose to restore a missing tooth with fixed bridge, you actually have to pay for three teeth. There are various kinds of material available for dental bridges now. If the bridge is made of material like all-ceramic which performs well in both aesthetics and function, its total cost is similar to that of a dental implant. Considering that dental implant requires no abrasion on healthy tooth tissues, it will be more cost effective. Relevant article: Tooth loss

A complete implant tooth includes three parts — implant post serving as tooth root, abutment as connector and crown for protection. The artificial root is supposed to integrate into alveolar bone firmly and support the whole tooth. With a successful surgery and good aftercare, it will probably remain useful for a dozen years or even a few decades. As for the price, it generally costs more than ten thousand yuan.

As is suggested by dentists, you should seek a dental replacement for a missing tooth as soon as possible. Otherwise, there may be development of tooth shifting and alveolar resorption over time. Consult with a dental professional and get a customized treatment plan.
