Porcelain Veneer – How long does it take?

Published on:2019-12-5

How long does it take to get a dental veneer? Time-saving solutions are sought-after in this efficiency-oriented era. Does dental veneer respond to the requirement for convenience and efficiency?

Dental veneers are wafer-thin, custom-made shells of tooth-colored materials designed to cover the front surface of teeth to improve your appearance. How long does it take to get a dental veneer? How much time does it need to restore the two maxillary central incisors with veneers? Can it be done on a single day? Let’s find out the answers below.

How long does it take to get a dental veneer?

Before the making of a dental veneer, some of the shiny, outer enamel surface of the tooth may be removed. The amount of enamel removed is tiny and will be the same as the thickness of the veneer to be fitted, so that the tooth stays the same size, and is able to blend in with your other teeth naturally.

Getting a porcelain veneer is usually a multi-step process, involving x-ray examination, treatment design, impression-taking, shade comparison, photo-taking, tooth preparation (trimming the tooth) and veneer bonding. It takes 2 visits. The fist is to collect relevant data and make treatment plan, and the second (a week later) which may take one to two hours is to fit the veneer over the tooth.

By and large, it may take about one week at least or two to three weeks at most to get a dental veneer, depending on the treatment progress and time schedule.

How much time does it need to restore the two maxillary central incisors with veneers?

Dental veneer is available for one or multiple teeth, and the placement of multiple veneers may take a little bit longer time, but not too much. It usually requires two visits in one or two weeks for the restoration of the central incisors.

Another factor that could influence the treatment time is the material of the veneer, composite resin or porcelain. The above-mentioned time is based on the relatively esthetic and natural-looking porcelain veneer. Composite veneer is more time-saving as it can be directly made inside the mouth, though not as esthetic as porcelain veneer.
